Who made the earth?
No one made the earth. The earth, like most other planets, formed from gases that coalesced, through the force of gravity, into stable entities called “planets.”
Is there a god?
There is no evidence anywhere in the universe for a god. That does not necessarily mean there isn’t a god, just that there is no evidence for one. It may also be important to note that one culture’s concept of a god is likely to differ from another’s. For example, the Chinese concept of Tao,
Is there a problem with faith?.
Sometimes. Once we assume truth in things for which there is only faith, then we leave ourselves open to other beliefs and belief systems that are not founded on what we can observe as true. We leave ourselves open to the criticism of mindlessness or even ignorance.
Is there an afterlife?
None that can be known. Again, that doesn’t mean that there isn’t an afterlife, just that it cannot be known. However, based on knowledge, which has its limits, we can assume that belief in an afterlife is probably just a reasonable manifestation of a wish or hope.
Is science a replacement for religion?
No. History has clearly shown that what calls itself science is limited to the best knowledge of its era. However, pure science, that which is open to endless inquiry and vigorous testing, is the very best form of intellectual discovery that human beings possess. Moreover, what we call science has been practiced by human beings from the dawn of human time. The discoveries of science are not limited to just the present era.
Are humans descended from apes?
Humans are apes and evolved from other ape-like animals.

Can we predict the winners for the 2009 Oscars prior to Sunday evening?
For the most part, yes. Although I am unable to determine the winner of the Best Supporting Actress award. Any ideas out there? And know that, regarding the Oscars, I am talking out of my hat. On other matters this post is generally on the mark.
