This has been a big week showcasing the power of voice. John Madden retired from football broadcasting and Harry Kalas the long-time voice of the Philadelphia Phillies and NFL Films died suddenly in the very broadcasting booth where he charmed fans for decades.
What do John Madden, Harry Kalas, and other great voices have in common? I would suggest that their power is not only that their voices possessed resonance and beauty, that is a quality of quite a few voices have. These voices stand out from the crowd because they expressed a deep love for the game. What makes these two people different was their passion. They not only loved their respective games, but they respected the fans for their own passion and engagement in these great sports.
With all the problems caused by wildly inflated contracts and chemical enhancements, both football and baseball soared when it was described, documented, and hailed by these two legends of the sports world.
It is our passion that makes us unique. What are you passionate about? What do you love? What are you just dying to make a commitment to?
These are some of the questions you need to ask yourself before it’s too late. Living a life doing what we need to do out of fear is starkly different from living a life out of love.
This is the thing we need to discover in ourselves and create a space for in our lives to do. Love and authentic power are very closely connected. Until we start doing what we love, we will never express the power that is uniquely our own.
Find this love and you will find your power.
